My journey with Insulin Resistance.

March 2010: I was diagnosed with Insulin Resistance. The diagnosis didn't really surprise me. My dad has diabetes. All of his siblings have diabetes. My grandma died from diabetes complications. Insulin resistance is the precursor to diabetes. At least it is as far as I understand. I had known for a long time that diabetes might be in my future. I just didn't know that I would start seeing signs so soon. You see, in March I was 22 years old. Too young to have insulin resistance.

June 2010: I had lost 8 lbs. Moving from 190 lbs to 183 lbs. I had joined a gym and was getting up at 5:30 every morning to work out. I had read The South Beach Diet and suffered through the first two weeks of torture on the diet. (If you don't know, the first two weeks of the South Beach Diet restricts breads, pastas, fruits, and a lot of dairy).

July 2010: I gave up the South Beach Diet and started counting calories.

September 2010: I dropped my gym membership. Between July and September I gained back 10 lbs, weighing 192 lbs.

October 2010: I have decided to start a blog about fighting insulin resistance. My reasoning, to learn more about insulin resistance and how to reverse it. I have the facts. I know that if I continue on this path I will end up with diabetes, overweight, unhealthy, and miserable. Perhaps all before I turn 30 years old.

Why a blog? Because I need an outlet for my thoughts. I need some accountability, and I hope that I can help someone through my journey.

My goals: weigh 150 or less (lose 45 lbs), learn to eat what works for my body, create a daily exercise routine, learn to make healthy treats (I. love. chocolate.).
